In 1994 a group of African students studying at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville came together to form an organization, then called Bridge Africa, to begin addressing some of the problems on the African continent and create a bridge of sorts to fill in the development gap between the Africa and the developed world. The group met monthly to discuss and suggest solutions to problems related to development in Africa and even raised funds through a monthly donation of $10 by each member. The idea was to raise funds to be used to provide capital to new or existing micro businesses on the continent. Represented in the group were students from Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Cape Verde, Nigeria, Swaziland, Mali, Mauritania, and Liberia.

Many years have since passed as members graduated, pursued their careers and moved to different parts of the US and Africa. But the desire to help fellow Africans was never extinguished. The group slowly began to reconvene in 2021 with some new additions who share the same passion of providing assistance and bridging the development gap in Africa. But alas, the name Bridge Africa was already taken (with varying adaptations) by multiple organizations! Thus an effort began to come up with a new name that would serve the group’s vision and purpose to assist with development on multiple fronts on their beloved continent. As a result, See Africa Grow was born.
